Jolly Designs wins an Award!

Our booklets "Black and White" and "High Contrasts" won the spiel gut award.

What does that mean?

Since 1954, educators, psychologists, physicians, technicians, experts in design, chemistry, electronics... and parents - scientists and practitioners - have been testing and assessing toys: from baby rattles to material for experimenting. We work voluntarily and are independent of the toy industry and retailers. Our recommendation spiel gut means that this toy has been tested with children and evaluated by experts - with a positive result. Our criteria: Play possibilities and value, material, workmanship, construction, durability, design, size, quantity, quality of the instructions, suitability for the appropriate age group.

Playing and toys as an educational aids?

Playing always entails learning. Not by means of teaching, but on the basis of personal experience - the most effective form of learning in childhood. Physical and mental agility, social behaviour, imagination, logical thinking, planned action, the ability to concentrate, persistence, pleasure in being active and many other things can be developed in playing and remain effective throughout one's life: every day, at work and during leisure activities as well as in a wide variety of other situations.

Learning to play?

Playing also needs to be learned. Every child's innate willingness to play can only develop into the capability to play with careful assistance, stimulation and encouragement. Good toys can support, but only if the child's abilities and interests are taken into consideration when choosing a toy.
